Pune to Solapur is one of the busiest road trips in southern Maharashtra. Students head home for the weekend, families visit relatives, business travellers have meetings at the textile and beedi units, and pilgrims continue on to Pandharpur, Akkalkot and Tuljapur. By cab, the trip is about 252 km and a little over four hours of driving without long breaks, so you can leave Pune after breakfast and be in Solapur by lunch.

This guide covers the route, the best places to stop, how long it really takes, and how to choose between a one-way drop and a round trip.

The route: Pune to Solapur on NH 65

Almost every cab takes the Pune–Solapur highway, NH 65 (part of the Pune–Hyderabad road). It is a wide, mostly four-lane highway, which is why the drive is so predictable. Leaving Pune through Hadapsar, the road passes Loni Kalbhor, Uruli Kanchan and Yavat, then runs past Bhigwan, Indapur, Tembhurni and Mohol before entering Solapur.

  • Pune city to Hadapsar and Loni Kalbhor: the slowest part of the trip. Office traffic can add 30 to 45 minutes on weekday mornings and evenings.
  • Yavat to Indapur: open highway with good dhabas and fuel stations.
  • Bhigwan: the road crosses the backwaters of the Ujani dam. In winter, flamingos and other migratory birds gather here.
  • Indapur to Solapur: straight, fast stretches through farmland.

If you are being picked up from Pimpri-Chinchwad, Hinjewadi or Wakad, add some time to cross the city. Your driver will usually take the ring roads to avoid the centre.

How long does it take?

Plan for 4 to 5 hours door to door. The driving time is around four hours; add time for city traffic in Pune and one tea or meal stop. Early morning departures (before 7 am) are the quickest. Friday evenings and the evening before a long weekend are the slowest, because many people leave Pune at the same time.

During the Ashadhi and Kartiki wari seasons, the roads around Pandharpur and parts of the Solapur district become very busy with palkhi processions. If you travel then, tell us when booking so the driver can plan the timing and the road.

Best places to stop

A four-hour drive is comfortable with one break. Popular choices:

  • Near Yavat and Chaufula: many family restaurants and clean washrooms, about an hour out of Pune.
  • Bhigwan: known for fresh fish thalis and, in season, the birds on the Ujani backwaters.
  • Indapur and Tembhurni: good for a quick tea and snacks before the last stretch.

Tell your driver at the start if you want a particular stop, a temple visit on the way, or a longer lunch. On a round trip, the driver stays with you and stops wherever you like.

One way or round trip?

Choose a one-way cab if you are going to Solapur and staying there, for example moving back home, visiting family for a week, or dropping a student at college. You pay only for your trip, not for the car's return to Pune. See all one way cabs from Pune.

Choose a round trip if you are coming back within a day or a few days, or if you want the car with you in Solapur for meetings, shopping or a temple visit to Akkalkot or Pandharpur. The driver stays with you for the whole trip and you can plan your own stops.

Which car should I book?

  • Hatchback: the most economical, for up to four people with light luggage.
  • Sedan: more boot space and comfort for up to four people on a long drive.
  • MPV (6 seats): for families of five or six, or when you have more bags.

Every SwiftLux cab is air-conditioned and comes with a verified, professional driver.

Coming back: Solapur to Pune

The return trip takes the same road and the same time. Many customers book Solapur to Pune for early morning departures so they reach Pune before office traffic builds up. If you need to reach Pune airport or the railway station at a fixed time, tell us your flight or train time and we will plan the pickup with enough buffer.

Tips for a smooth trip

  • Share the exact pickup address and a landmark when booking. In Solapur, areas like Hotgi Road, Vijapur Road and the railway station area are large; a landmark saves time.
  • Keep some cash for tolls if your booking says tolls are paid as actual. The driver gives you the receipts.
  • Carry water and snacks for children; highway stops are good but not every 20 minutes.
  • Leave early if you have to reach Solapur for a fixed time, such as an exam, a hospital appointment or a wedding.
